Dirt LM Team Scores Meaningful 1-2 World Finals Finish

Chris Madden scored a meaningful victory Friday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, leading Scott Bloomquist in a 1-2 finish for Scott Bloomquist Racing to pay tribute to a fallen friend.

Madden’s victory comes on the day news swept through the pit area of Randy Sweet’s passing.  The Michigan racing legend partnered with Bloomquist to develop Sweet/Bloomquist Race Cars in 2014.

Madden, clearly emotional, discussed the sentimental value of the win following the race.

“It’s pretty bittersweet for me and Scott today,” Madden explained in victory lane.  “We lost Randy Sweet today.  It’s a big moment.”

Madden took the lead from Jonathan Davenport on lap 34 of the 50-lap feature, leading the rest of the way to take the win.

“It had rubbered up there at the end and got to one lane,” Madden said of the race-winning pass.  “I stayed back as far as I could off those guys, gave them some room and made sure I didn’t scoot out of the rubber.”

Bloomquist also worked his way around Davenport to finish second and complete the teammate sweep of the top two spots.

“It’s pretty special,” said Bloomquist.  “We’ve had a good time with Chris here.  I’m pretty close to back.  I’ve got most of my feeling in my leg.  The car was really good.”

Davenport settled for third, taking the final step on the podium as his car tightened up near the end of the race.

“Chris and Scott did a good job there.  I just got too tight,” said Davenport.  “I didn’t know it was wearing tires as bad as it was.  I was still moving around in traffic a little bit when Chris got me. I didn’t realize it was locked down quite that hard when I went into one since I hadn’t run there that much, and it shoved a little bit and Chris got by me.”

Chris Ferguson finished fourth, with Cade Dillard completing the top five.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will conclude its season as part of the Can-Am World Finals Saturday.  Opening ceremonies begin at 3:45 p.m. Eastern.
