GAFFNEY, S.C. – Devon Morgan was in his own league Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway.
Morgan dominated the City Chevrolet 602 Thunder Series portion of the Mike Duvall Memorial V8 Tribal Nationals, starting from the pole and leading every lap of the feature from the pole to take home the $2,000 top prize.
“What a race car. This thing was perfect from the moment we unloaded today,” said Morgan, who finished more than four seconds ahead of the runner-up. “To win a race honoring a legend like Mike Duvall, the Flintstone Flyer, is humbling and I’m so happy we could take home this trophy for our team and all of our partners.”
The victory is the sixth of the season for Morgan, who continues to turn heads during his first season racing a late model across the Southeast.
“I’ve really been happy with how this year has gone,” said Morgan. “We’ve been really successful and I’ve learned a lot racing this late model. We’ve picked up some wins and to be able to add a win in a big event like the Mike Duvall Memorial really just makes the season that much better. Hopefully we can keep this up and pick up a few more wins.
“A huge thank you to all of my family and sponsors for helping us get here, especially Jiffy Lube, who just joined us our primary sponsor. Also thanks to Buffalo Grill, Superior Grading, Elite Cars, Shore 2 Shore, Excel Racing Solutions, MPM Marketing and all of my other supporters. I wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
