After a two-year hiatus, the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is making a return in 2018, and it will be held at Virginia’s Langley Speedway. Langley Speedway officials made the announcement to those in attendance for Saturday night’s Hampton Heat 200 Late Model Stock Car event.
The event was scheduled to be held at Langley Speedway in 2016, but was canceled due to the closure of the race track that year due to issues with the track’s lease. The event was not held in 2017 as well. Langley Speedway reopened in the spring of 2017 after promoter Bill Mullis purchased the race track.
The 2018 race will be the ninth edition of the race. Kyle Busch won the first two Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdowns in 2008 and 2009 at Southside Speedway. Timothy Peters won the last event in 2015 at South Boston Speedway.
The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown has been run at three different Virginia tracks throughout its history. It has been raced at Southside Speedway, Richmond International Raceway and South Boston Speedway. Langley Speedway will be the fourth home of the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown.
The invitation-only event will be held on April 19th, 2018.
