Spencer Davis loves to race Late Models.  More often than not, if two divisions of Late Models are on the racing card at a short track, Spencer Davis’ name is on the entry list for both. Red Eye 100 weekend at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway is no different for Davis.

The 18-year-old driver will be doing double-duty as he pursues a Late Model sweep at New Smyrna on January 7 in the Super Late Model Red Eye 100 and the Pro Late Model Zack Donatti Memorial 125.

300x250 PFC 2017 JanDavis will enter the first Late Model race of the new year eyeing wins.  He’s won quite a bit at New Smyrna Speedway, so he said he believes he has a good chance at sweeping the Late Model features on Red Eye race day.

“It’s for the seat time and to get good finishes,” Davis said.  “At the end of the day, that’s what makes you stand out is good finishes.  Getting wins is what we’re looking for and doubling our chance is always nice.”

One year ago Davis finished fifth in the Red Eye 100.  It’s his lowest finish in three starts in the season-opening race.  Davis said now he just needs to get the victory.

“It would be cool to win the Red Eye.  It kind of sets the tone for the rest of the year.  But I like going to the Red Eye because it’s the first race of the year and it’s good to get off to a good start.  Every time we go run the Red Eye we run well there.”

Davis, a former Pro Late Model World Series champion, has five wins to his credit at New Smyrna Speedway.  One of those wins came one year ago in the Zack Donatti Memorial race, which at the time was just a 50-lap race.  This year it is a 125 lap race with $5,000 going to the winner .

“I won the Zack Donatti Memorial this past year,” Davis said.  “So I’m going back there to try to get another title in that one which would be really cool.”

The Red Eye 100 and Zack Donatti Memorial 125 will be held at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, January 7.  Sportsman and Bombers will join the Late Models on the racing card that evening.  More information can be found at www.newsmyrnaspeedway.org.
