Craig Finishes What He Started at Orange County

One month ago at Orange County Speedway (NC) Matt Craig and Brandon Setzer had two of the best cars in the field. In the end, neither driver went to victory lane after dominating the 150-lap CARS Tour Super Late Model event. Craig led 144 laps that night and finished second, but a month later he was able to do one better after dominating the 125-lap PRA Tours Super Late Model event.

“This thing would just dig the whole race,” Craig said.  “This Rowdy Manufacturing piece is so strong.  We could run another 125 laps right now and be good. Setzer was pressuring me early and I was like okay, we’ll ride or we will go and we had to go there pretty hard early on.  My car ended dup lasting a bit better than he did.”

Craig beat out Setzer as the two drivers combined to lead all 125 laps.  Just like a month ago they ran nose-to-tail for countless laps.  As the laps clicked off Craig was able to pull away from Setzer.

“The cars just wasn’t good enough,” Setzer said.  “Those Rowdy cars are unbelievable right now. I work with them every day so I know they are nice. We need to get our car just a little bit better if we want to win.”

Craig and Setzer were able to pull away as the leaders and lapped into the top three, leaving them as the only two cars on the lead lap after a 107-lap green flag run.

For Craig it’s his fourth win of the season and second with the PRA Tour, making him the first repeat winner in the series.

The race was slowed by only one caution flag as Tate Fogleman had an engine issue while running in the top five.  He lost power and coasted to the pits, but not before having fluid leak out on the track.  The clean up was the only slow part of the night for the Super Late Models.

The battle for third behind the leaders was intense as Kodie Conner had control of the position before fading late, which allowed Maine driver Kelly Moore to sneak past on the final lap.  At the same time, Tyler Church was able to grab fourth leaving Conner fifth, with all spots changing hands on the final lap.

The next PRA Super Late Model event will be at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on October 12.
