Salem, IN (January 19, 2015) – Champion Racing Association Powered by JEGS officials announced today the return of the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown for the 2015 season. The three premier point’s events for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will once again take center stage in the Triple Crown, the events will include the Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway, the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway and the 44th Annual Winchester 400 at the famed Winchester Speedway.
Any driver who can win all three Triple Crown events will receive a $100,000 bonus. Any driver who wins two Triple Crown events will receive a $10,000 bonus. If no driver wins two of the Triple Crown events, the driver who accumulates the most points during those three events will receive a $5,000 bonus and the title of Champion of the JEGS/CRA $100,00 Super Late Model Triple Crown. A driver must be present and attempt to make the field in all three of the Triple Crown events to be eligible for any of the bonuses.
Johnny VanDoorn came close to claiming the inaugural JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown during the 2013 season, which very few people expected anyone to have a chance. VanDoorn won the Berlin 251, his first ever feature win at his former home track, then got the big win at the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300, guaranteeing him the minimum $10,000 bonus, at the Winchester 400, mechanical issues regulated VanDoorn to an eighth place finish, ending his dream of capturing the big dollar bonus.
In 2014, there were three separate winners in the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown events. Daniel Hemric got the win in the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300, Johnny VanDoorn won his second Berlin 251, while Erik Jones won his second Winchester 400. 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Travis Braden accumulated the most points during those three events and received the $5,000 point’s Champion bonus.
“The JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown has created a lot of excitement and interest the last two seasons and especially as Johnny closed in on his big opportunity to win $100,000 in 2013,” noted CRA Managing Partner Glenn Luckett, “Nobody’s had the opportunity to win that kind of money at our level in a long time. It gives a racer a shot at a huge payday. A special thanks to JEGS and the three tracks involved for giving someone that opportunity again this season!”
Each event in the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown will also have a “tune-up” event earlier in the season, before each leg of the Triple Crown is run. The first Triple Crown event will be the Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway on Tuesday, June 16th, with a tune-up event on May 16th. The second leg of the Triple Crown will be the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway on July 18th, which had its tune up event on April 25th. The third and final leg, where the Triple Crown Champion will be crowned, will be the Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway on October 11th. Winchester will have tune-up for that big event as part of the Labor Day Weekend Stock Car Festival, with the series feature event on Monday, September 7th.
“The Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300, with its storied history, has once again risen to one of the best and most exciting Super Late Model races in the country,” remarked Rick Dawson, Owner of Anderson Speedway. “The added incentive of the Triple Crown bonus only adds to the prestige of the Event and we are proud to be a part of it.”
