Kevin Cornelius takes the feature win at the Velocity 250 at Sunset Speedway

Location: Sunset Speedway September 28, 2014

What won the race: #b10 of Kelly Balson and #81 of Andrew Gressel would lead the 24 car field to the green flag for the 50 lap feature event. Gressel quickly placed himself in the lead as the rest of the top runners would put on an exciting display of racing. As the caution flag flew on lap 12 for a single car spin, this would give the #17 of Kevin Cornelius the chance he was looking for. On the restart Gressel gave the inside lane to Cornelius and the two raced side by side into turn one. The #17 was able to pull off the pass and hold onto the lead to pick up the feature win. The #81 of Andrew Gressel held on for a second place finish with Dwayne Baker rounding out the top three. The battle to round out the top 5 had the fans on the edge of their seats. Top qualifier Jeff Hanley battled Baker throughout the whole fifty laps to take home a fourth place finish. Making his return to super late model racing was the #89c of Shawn Chenoweth and was rewarded with a solid fifth place finish. Glenn Watson in his #22 fought back from a couple of spins to barely miss the top 5 with a 6th place finish.

Bad Luck of the event: The #90 of Jay Palumbo made the long trip from Sault St Marie, only to suffer mechanical issues and not be able to compete in the day’s event. In speaking to the team you can expect to see them back in 2015. Terry Bogusz and his #550 super late model made the haul from Michigan to make his first OSCAAR appearance unfortunately mechanical problems also sidelined the team early in the feature. #39 Shane Gowan was also forced pit side early along with the #27 of JR Fitzpatrick.

Rookie Battle: Three Rookie of the Year candidates were in attendance at Sunset Speedway.  Corey Jones was awarded the top rookie honours at the end of the 50 lap feature event. #44 Dave Doucette was the second highest with Kelly Balson rounding out the rookies.
