Coastal 200 Will Resume Saturday at Wiscasset

Two weeks after its scheduled date, the Coastal 200 will resume this Saturday at Wiscasset Speedway.  With Mother Nature spoiling the party on Memorial Day Weekend, hype and anticipation has only grown for the $5,000-to-win Late Model Sportsman race at Maine’s fastest oval.

Saturday’s Coastal 200 will mark the return of the race after it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions in the state.

A strong field of 26 Late Models showed up to the originally scheduled race on Sunday, May 30 and participated in three qualifying heat races prior to the event being postponed due to rain showers.  Tiger Colby, Shane Clark and two-time defending race winner Ben Ashline won their respective qualifying races and will make up the top three starting spots in the 200-lap main event.

Twenty-five drivers have already locked themselves into the 28-car starting field, while a consolation race on Saturday will set the rest of the lineup.

Current Late Model points leader Josh St. Clair, former Coastal 200 winner Andrew McLaughlin and former Pro Stock champion Nick Hinckley are among the favorites to stop Ashline from his third straight victory.

In addition to the Coastal 200 for Late Model Sportsman, the Senior Tour Auto Racers (S.T.A.R.), Strictly Streets, Outlaw Minis and Modifieds will also be in acton.  The first green flag is scheduled to wave at 4 p.m. ET, with the Coastal 200 expected to see the green flag around 7 p.m. ET.

Fans unable to make it to Wiscasset, ME for Saturday’s race will be able to watch the action live on Speed51.TV.  The live broadcast will be available to both monthly and yearly subscribers.  If you’re not already a subscriber, you can become one today by clicking here.
