The winged-warriors of the International Supermodified Association will make their way to New York’s Oswego Speedway this Saturday, June 7 for a 50-lap feature, the first round of the ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series. Following the cancellation of the “Irish” Jack Murphy Memorial on May 3 due to rain, Saturday’s event will serve as the season-opening event for ISMA teams hoping to chase the 2014 championship.
2013 ISMA champion “Liquid” Lou Cicconi, driver of the No. 61 Clyde-Booth owned machine, will be looking to repeat his performance during last year’s version of this event. Cicconi used a win in this same event last season to build momentum for the season and hopes use a strong start at Oswego Speedway to kick-off his bid at a second straight championship.
“It’s always important to have a strong start no matter where you start at,” said Cicconi. “The fact that it’s Oswego adds to the significance and the importance of having a strong start.”
With competitors like six-time ISMA champion Chris Perley, 2013 championship runner-up Ben Seitz, and a number of other teams capable of locking down a win on Saturday, Cicconi knows that he and his team will have to be on their A-game in order to have a strong run.
“Oswego is a really good race track and they have a lot of competitors that are really fast there. That part there is a struggle because there’s such a fine line between a car that handles and a car that doesn’t handle that it makes a gigantic difference in speed. You’ve got to be on your game to go fast.”
Dave Shullick, Jr., who has shown a lot of speed at Oswego Speedway already this season, Jeff Locke, rookie Ryan Gath, and a host of other talented drivers are expected to enter Saturday’s event.
Time Trials are expected to begin at 5:00pm ET on Saturday with feature racing beginning at 6:30pm. General Admission tickets are available at the ticket booth for $25 and pit area access is available for $35.
Live Trackside Now coverage of the event will be available on Speed51.com for those at the track with mobile devices, or those unable to make it to Oswego, New York on Saturday.
