In what is becoming a yearly tradition, the Valenti Modified Racing Series will make its way to Stafford Motor Speedway on the Friday before Labor Day weekend for an 80-lap main event.  Friday night’s VMRS event will be the series’ final event of the 2014 season at the half-mile Connecticut oval, where Todd Szegedy and Keith Rocco have already scored victories this season.  Can Rocco continue his VMRS dominance at Connecticut race tracks or will another driver put their name in the record books?  That question will be answered on Friday night.

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Championship Night

The hottest ticket in Maine on Saturday night will be NASCAR Nite at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, as the track will crown its 2014 champions in the Pro Series, Sport Series and Wildcat divisions.  Dave Farrington, Jr. will enter the night with a sizable lead in the tracks premier Pro Series division, but youngster Reid Lanpher still mathematically has a shot at capturing the season title.  When the numbers are crunched on Saturday, the series champion will also be crowned the Maine State NASCAR Champion.  The most intriguing championship battle on Saturday night will be in the Sport Series divisions, where Garrett Hall leads 2008 division champion Sally Gherardi by just seven points.

Budweiser SK Modified Nationals 150

Keith Rocco will attempt to continue his dominance in SK Modified competition at Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night as the division hosts its biggest event of the season, the Budweiser SK Modified National 150-lap event.  Rocco is the defending winner of the $5,000-to-win event and a 10-time winner in the division this season, but a stout field of cars is expected to show up in an attempt to halt Rocco’s dominance.  With big money on the line, the excitement level is always high and “the original big money SK Modified race” is sure to give fans their money’s worth on Saturday.

If you prefer dirt track racing, it’s your lucky weekend because Bear Ridge Speedway is hosting one of their most popular events of the year on Saturday night.  “Topless Night” at the famous Vermont dirt track will feature the Sprint Cars of New England and Sportsman Modifieds both going wingless for their qualifying and feature events.  Drivers and teams will be thrown a curveball as they attempt to master the handling on their cars without wings, while fans will get a closer look at the drivers as they wheel their way around the tight quarter-mile dirt oval.

Labor Day weekend will be full of open-wheeled action in Oswego, New York as Oswego Speedway hosts the ISMA Super Nationals and Budweiser International Classic, along with the Race of Champions Modifieds.  The stars and cars of the International Supermodified Association will be on display on Saturday evening before the cars go wingless on Sunday for the prestigious Bud Classic event.  If you like speed, and a lot of it, Oswego, New York is your destination for Labor Day weekend.

What’s more Labor Day than the Labor Day Classic 200 at the Nation’s Site of Excitement, Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl?  This event has always been a fan favorite for the diehards in Barre, Vermont, but this year the event will hold even more meaning for the fans that make their way to Quarry Hill throughout the summer.  This year’s event is the first in recent years that will not be an American-Canadian Tour points-counting event.  Instead, it will serve as the final event of the 2014 Late Model season and will determine the highly-coveted 2014 “King of the Road.”  Derrick O’Donnell and Nick Sweet are in a tight battle for the championship heading into the weekend.  200 laps on the Vermont high-banks Sunday afternoon will more than likely determine whether O’Donnell will repeat or Sweet will win his third track championship.

Big money will be on the line in the Keystone State for the World of Outlaws Late Models as they compete three straight nights in Pennsylvania.  The tripleheader kicks off Friday at Lernerville Speedway with a $10,00-to-win show.  Then it’s down the road to Selinsgrove Speedway for two nights of action.  Saturday’s feature pays $8,000 to win, while Sunday’s WoOLM feature winner will take home $10,000.

Lee Fields put Mobile International Speedway on the map and the Irvington, Alabama track honors him each year with the running of the Lee Fields Memorial.  The Pro Late Model race is expected to draw lots of talent like Mike Garvey, Hunter Robbins, Korey Ruble, Bubba Pollard, Garrett Jones and several others. Pollard will be returning for what could be a fifth win in the event.

For those who are chasing NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Points, this is a date that will be circled on the calendar of drivers Lee Pulliam, Dillon Bassett, Tommy Lemons, Jr, and others.  Each are racing for points whether locally, nationally or for the state title.  Pulliam is P2 in at the national standings, Bassett leads the North Carolina points and Lemons leads the track points at Southern National. This night should draw some big names.

38th Annual Bobby Isaac Memorial 150

Marquee events in the Late Model Stock car world are always an entertaining for the fans. However, there are not many more that have the history like the Bobby Isaac Memorial 150.  The annual show at Hickory Motor Speedway always draws a strong car count and large crowd.  Dave Garbo, Jr. is the defending champion of the race as only Coleman Pressley has won more than once dating back to 2004.

46th Annual Hillbilly 100

Some of the baddest racecars on the planet will duke it out in one of the most historic Dirt Late Model races in the country.  The 46th Annual Hillbilly 100 for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will pay $25,000 to the winner on Sunday.  It’s a can’t-miss show for anyone who loves getting dirty.

According to the track’s Facebook page, more than 30 cars will be at Showtime for this event on Saturday.  The race is $7,500 to win and $400 to start.  That has a large number of drivers flocking to Pinellas Park for this one. Chris Fontaine is leading the season point standings heading into this event.  There are three more SLM events listed on the schedule for this season.

This is the second leg of the weekend for the National point chasers as those who do well on  Friday or Saturday could and more than likely will end up racing on Monday if they need points.  Dillon Bassett swept the races at Caraway last week and Lee Pulliam did it a few weeks back as well.  Racing get underway at 2:30pm.

The first year of the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series has been nothing short of entertaining. Three nights of action packed racing action will thrill the fans at Grundy County this Labor Day Weekend.  The Late Models, Mid Am, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Spectator Drags will headline the Friday night action, which will feature concession specials and free bag of popcorn for kids.  Saturday it’s the 11th Annual Hall of Fame/Racers Reunion night with the Bob Lockard Memorial Midget race, plus the STARS Midgets, IRS Midgets, Legends, Mini Cups and Classic Modifieds.  Sunday features six divisions of racing including the Late Models, Mid Am, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Legends and Midgets, plus fireworks.

The season is coming close to an end in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West ranks as they head back to Kern Count for their second visit of 2014.  Greg Pursley has a commanding lead over Dyan Lupton in the standings.  Pursley sat on the pole and won the race in the spring at Kern County.  He also took the win there last fall in the first K&N race at the new facility.  Pursley looks to put a lock on the 2014 championship by scoring what would be a third win of 2014 and a third in a row at Kern County. The race is scheduled to go green at 8:35pm.

Dominic Ursetta leads the Super Late Model points, but Chris Eggleston has had fine season and proves to one of the worthy competitors to leave CNS with a win on Saturday night.  This is one of the last tune ups before the Colorado Challenge Cup XL which is on October 4th.  Racing this weekend gets underway at 6:30pm with the pits opening at 1pm.

It’s the biggest race in Western Canada and the best of the best will be heading to Western Speedway (BC) this weekend for the 36th year.  One season ago it was Jason Tarasenko taking the honor.  Roy Haslam is a five time winner of this race which is the most. Gates open at 4:30pm with racing at 6:30pm.

You wanted the best?  Well West Coast fans, you’ll have them four abreast this weekend when you check out the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at either Skagit Speedway this Friday and Saturday or Grays Harbor on Sunday.  Donny Schatz will be the guy to beat, as he has been all season long, but a hungry pack will try to take him down on this West Coast Tripleheader.
