HUNTERSVILLE, NC — One of the hottest young talents in grassroots motorsports, Chase Purdy, announced today a new relationship with David Gilliland Racing, the super late model racing team fielded by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Gilliland. Purdy’s first race with the organization will come this weekend at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia.
This new relationship is the latest progression in Purdy’s championship pedigree as he aspires to reach the upper tiers of the sport. His accomplishments to date include wins from his youngest days in Bandolero racing, US Legend Cars and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition. Most recently, Purdy fought for the prestigious Bojangle’s Summer Shootout Championship at Charlotte Motor Speedway before an accident derailed his chances at the title in the final laps of the season finale.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity that being a part of David Gilliland’s program presents,” Chase commented. “With everything I have been able to accomplish since getting into stock cars for the first time at the beginning of this year, I’m excited to get behind the wheel of DGR’s Super Late Model Toyota and see what we can do.”
If past results are any indication, Purdy is in for a quick start. DGR debuted in touring series competition with Todd Gilliland in 2015, winning the inaugural event in the CARS Racing Tour and launching him to success in both ARCA and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. This season, DGR has captured two wins in CARS Tour competition with two separate drivers and currently leads the point standings with their No. 99 car.
Prior to the start of their new relationship, Purdy tested the No. 97 DGR Toyota at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia and, after passing the evaluation with flying colors, agreed to terms with DGR to compete in their first of at least five planned races together. The first event is the Pro All Stars Series race at South Boston Speedway in Virginia this Saturday night.
“I’m really looking forward toworking with Chase,” said team owner David Gilliland. “He has really impressed us with what he has been able to do so far this year. He is an exceptional addition to our team.”
Like many of his contemporaries, Purdy and his sponsor Bama Buggies have recently begun working with Performance Marketing Group of Huntersville, N.C., to boost their racing program’s return on investment and Purdy’s career growth. This latest step was brokered through relationships established by PMG.
“We have only been working with PMG for a short time, but the speed with which they made this deal happen was amazing,” said Purdy. “It’s not every day that you get a chance to race for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, so this is really cool. They’ve been a huge help already and I look forward to working with them for years to come.”
