Due to executive orders from the state of North Carolina, Millbridge Speedway will not permit spectators for the DiaEdge Carolina Midget Showdown on Saturday, December 12. The event will also see several changes to limit the number of people allowed on the premises during the event.
No spectators or media will be allowed for the event, which will now be contested on Saturday, December 12. Fans will still be able to watch the event on Speed51.TV via a pay-per-view broadcast.
A limited number of teams will be participating in the event, on an invitation-only basis. Invited teams must submit a list of crew members for approval, and only those individuals will be able to enter the pit gates for the DiaEdge Carolina Midget Showdown.
“It’s incredibly disappointing to have to turn away spectators for this event that is drawing so much excitement,” said Millbridge Speedway co-owner Ashly Burnett. “We are still looking forward to welcoming Midget racing to our venue and have an incredible lineup of drivers ready to compete. However, we must act in the best interest and safety for everyone involved.”
The event originally boasted confirmed entries from top Midget racers and NASCAR stars alike. Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe, Cannon McIntosh, Zach Daum and CJ Leary were among the announced entries for the event.
Invited teams will still have a practice night on Friday, December 11 at Millbridge Speedway to prepare for the Carolina Midget Showdown. Now, teams will compete solely on Saturday, December 12, with no racing scheduled for Sunday.
In lieu of the Sunday feature, there will be a pair of A-Mains during Saturday’s event. Saturday’s schedule will still feature practice, qualifying and heat races ahead of the twin features.
Micro Sprints, Box Stocks and Beginner Box Stocks were also originally on the schedule for the DiaEdge Carolina Midget Showdown as supporting classes for the event. Those divisions have been removed from the schedule for the event.
