Sophia, NC — Due to the impending forecast of rain throughout the weekend, Caraway Speedway management has decided to postpone the Southern Modified Racing Series opener to next Sunday afternoon.

“It is unfortunate to have to postpone our season opener but I feel it is in the best interest of the teams, fans and officials to announce our decision early,” stated track and series Promoter Renee Hackett.  “Our area has had a significant amount of rain over the past few weeks saturating the grounds. With the prediction of more rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, it would be impossible to dry the track in a timely manner for an afternoon event.”

The schedule will be mirrored for next weekend, starting with a test session on Saturday, March 16 followed by the 54th season opener on Sunday afternoon, March 17. The Southern Modified Racing Series will compete for 125 laps of action with $5,000 going to the winner. Also on hand will be the Late Model Sportsman, 602 Modifieds and Super Limiteds, Mini Stocks and U-Cars.

Grandstands will open at 12 noon and the racing action will get under way at 2:30pm. More information available at or by contacting the speedway office at 336-629-5803.
