Brian Campbell set fast time in qualifying, worked his way to the front and won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Beach Bash 100 at Berlin Raceway (MI) in dominating fashion. The driver of the No. 47 took the lead on lap 25 after starting seventh and never looked back on his way to victory lane Saturday evening.

“The car was good. We unloaded fast yesterday and we continued that today,” Campbell told powered by JEGS. “We were fortunate to get by Carson (Hocevar) to get fast time; I didn’t think we were gonna get fast time.  We weren’t really planning to get to the lead that fast. If the car was gonna go, it was going to go at around lap 50 or so, and that was kind of like my game plan. But it is what it is and we never looked back.  We were praying for no caution, he (Hocevar) was praying for a caution. Whenever the tires get hot, everybody gets so equaled out it would’ve been a heck of a race.”

300x250 Summer Thunder 2017.07.15 BerlinFour cautions flew early in the race, but the final 60 laps were all completed without a caution. Second-place finisher and Berlin Raceway Super Late Model points leader Carson Hocevar was fast at the end of the race but ultimately couldn’t catch Campbell.

“It was overall a good race for us and KBR Development”, Hocevar explains. “We struggled yesterday and earlier today in practice. We qualified second which was a real shock for us. We got up to the Top 2 really quick and we just rode from there. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough to get to Brian but if we had a caution we may have been able to do something with him.”

Local drivers were well represented in Saturday’s finish, as the top seven finishers all hail from the state of Michigan. Austin Kunert was the highest-finishing driver from outside Michigan with an eighth-place finish.  Jack Dossey III, the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour points leader going into Berlin, finished 11th.

The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be in action again next Saturday at the half mile of Bear Field Motorsports Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the makeup of the season opener, the Spring Breakout 100.
