MADERA, CA, — The California Supermodified Series is excited to announce its 2015 race schedule. The inaugural race season for the 360 cubic inch engine Supermodified series consists of six races at the famed LoanMart Madera Speedway, “The Fastest one-third mile in the West.” The schedule celebrates the rich California open wheel racing heritage with the Pombo/Sargent Classic on March 28, the Vukovich Classic on May 2, the Gerhardt Classic on July 11 and the Harvest Classic on October 19. It builds on the 2014 season of public participation events and the single exhibition at the LoanMart Short Track Shootout on October 18, 2014. The interest, response and future potential intrigued LoanMart Madera Speedway and opened opportunities to make the 2015 schedule possible.

For the first official race of California Supermodified Series history, the series will roar into the LoanMart Madera Speedway for the Pombo/Sargent Classic on March 28. Named after two west coast supermodified legends, Al Pombo and Marshall Sargent, the CSS 360 Supermodifieds will be joined by two classes of Vintage Supermodifieds (the historical, rich, and classic Legends of Kearny Bowl Vintage Supermodifieds and Mike Sargent’s, son of Marshall, newly founded Open Vintage Supermodified class), and two classes of Sprint Cars (the regional division of Davey Hamilton’s King of the Wing national-touring Sprint Cars and the Northern California Modified Association Sprint Cars). Three classes of Midgets (the traditional Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) Midgets along with their vintage class and the United States Auto Club (USAC) HPD Western Midget Pavement Series) will round out the open wheel event.
The series will return to action on May 2 for the Vukovich Classic at LoanMart Madera Speedway. They will be joined on the card of racing action by three other classes of Supermodified (the modern and vintage open Supermodified classes as well as the classic Legends of Kearny Bowl Vintage Supermodifieds), two classes of Sprint Cars (the regional division of Davey Hamilton’s King of the Wing national-touring Sprint Cars and the Northern California Modified Association Sprint Cars), three classes of Midgets (the traditional Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) Midgets along with their vintage class and the United States Auto Club (USAC) HPD Western Midget Pavement Series), as well as the Twisted Tea Modified Series and the California Hardtop Association. Each year the Vukovich Classic celebrates the rich open wheel racing heritage, legacy, and history of one of the greatest racing families, the Vukovich family. This years Vukovich Classic promises the tradition, legacy, and prestige of those before it, as well as heightened interest, emphasis, and passion celebrating the 25th anniversary of the loss of one of the race namesakes, the 1988 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year, Billy Vukovich III. On November 25, 1990, Vukovich tragically lost his life in a Sprint Car accident at the Mesa Marin Speedway in Bakersfield, California.
The CSS winged warriors convene to battle again on June the 20 at LoanMart Madera Speedway. Joining the series on the card will be the LoanMart Open Late Model Series, the Super Hobby Stock Series, the Legends of the Pacific series, as well as a handful of other Madera stock car weekly classes. The series returns to a momentous event further celebrating the rich open wheel racing heritage, legacy, and history at the Gerhardt Classic on July 11th. The card is packed with touring series’ including the track’s traditional vintage Supermodified classes (open and restricted) along with the 100 lap Bay Cities Racing Association feature honoring legendary Indy car builder Fred Gerhardt. Vintage Midgets as well as the USAC HPD Western Pavement Midget Series. Also racing will be the regional division of Davey Hamilton’s King of the Wing Sprints as well as the Northern California Modified Association Sprints and the Twisted Tea modifieds for race number four of the schedule.
The fifth race of the tour will be on August 15th as the racers are joined by their open ruled vintage counterparts, the USAC HPD midgets, the NCMA sprints, the 5th race for the Twisted Tea Modifieds, as well as a couple of entry-level weekly stock car divisions. The season finale will come on September 19 as the series attempts to crown a champion at the Harvest Classic. The regional division of the King of the Wing and Northern California Modified Association Sprint car series as well as the Bay Cities Racing Association and USAC HPD Midget series will be in attendance as well with another Twisted Tea modified race. The track’s vintage Supermods and Hardtops will help fill out the show, which is completed by an appearance by the multi-engine pulling tractors that have added a unique aspect to this entertainment event’s schedule in years past.
