The Virginia Triple Crown for Late Model Stock Cars will get underway this Saturday night with the South Boston 200 at South Boston Speedway. We get you ready for the race in this edition of “By the Numbers” on Speed51.com.

5: On the Limited Sportsman side, only five points separate Trey Crews and Ross “Boo Boo” Dalton. These two drivers have won the last three Limited events on South Boston 200 weekend. They will each be chasing a fourth victory while they chase each other on the race track.

6: If six-time South Boston 200 winner Lee Pulliam shows up, he will be seeking his seventh win in this race. Peyton Sellers and Deac McCaskill are the only other drivers who have won the race more then twice.

22: Current CARS Tour points leader Bobby McCarty has had a fine season winning on tracks he’s never raced at with Nelson Motorsports. Now, he comes home with a fast car and to a track he knows well. Look for McCarty to run well.

30: Philip Morris is back atop the point standings at South Boston Speedway and his 30-point lead entering the longest race of the year only adds to the excitement. Morris had never won the fourth of July weekend event until last season when he stopped the six-race win streak by Lee Pulliam.

600: A total of 600 laps will be run over the course of the Virginia Late Model Stock Triple Crown; 200 at South Boston, 200 at Langley and 200 at Martinsville.

10,000: People will watch the Virginia Triple Crown points closely as the champion gets $10,000.

Track, State & Nation: Phiip Morris’ year has him on top of the point standing for the track, as well as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Virginia state and national standings.

Next Race: The Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway will be up in a few weeks for the Late Model Stock Cars. This will be the second leg of the Virginia Triple Crown. Last year, Bobby McCarty scored the win and he’s already having a big season in 2018. The Hampton Heat will be run on July 21.

The Road to Martinsville: If a driver was told that they would win Martinsville and none of the other Triple Crown events, they would likely be fine with that. Martinsville is the $25,000 prize at the end of the rainbow and the biggest show of the year.
