Each year, New Smyrna Speedway (FL) hosts the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, bringing together several classes of racing for nine nights at the half-mile oval.

To prepare fans for the action, our resident “Stat Boy” Elgin Traylor takes a look at the Pro Late Model division “by the numbers.”

0: In the 12 previous seasons there have been 12 different champions. No driver has ever won two titles.

0: Don’t hold us to this just yet but the entry list looks like we might throw the green flag on the first night with no former winners in the field.

1X: Former Florida Modified champion Todd Stone will give it another go in the Pro Late Model ranks. He has 23 starts and 17 top 10 runs.

20: Right now the pre-race entry list is just over 20.  We know other cars will join the mix over the next few nights.

43: Last season Mason Diaz became the 43rd different driver to score a win in the Pro Late Model class since it started in 2007.

51: Brandon Oakley will be back after three Pro Late Model starts in 2017.

100: The Pro Late Models will get to go for 100 laps on the second Friday during the Zack Donatti Memorial 100.

Fresh Blood: Multi-time Super Late Model winner and former PASS North champion Cassius Clark will be making the trip south for Speedweeks.

Will He?: Augie Grill is on the entry list with the Pro Late Models and the veteran could be a terror to this class if he runs all week. We will have to wait and see.

Oh Canada: It’s great to see four teams coming from the north. The Pro Late Model class has produced several winners from Canada.

Fast History of the Pro Late Model at the World Series

2015: Six different drivers won in seven nights of action with only Dalton Armstrong winning more then once.

2012: The Pro Late Models were merged with the Limited Late Models, ending a 23-year run for the class at the World Series.  It was hard for the track to justify the running of three classes of Late Models each night when two were so close in rules.

2002: Jason Boyd won all nine nights of Limited Late Model action to sweep the week.  This was the only time a driver has won all nine nights.  Most classes don’t even race that many nights anymore.

1988: Ed Meredith won four times during the week and won what we have on record as the the first Limited Late Model championship.  That’s pre Pro Late Model.
