One of the first short track races of the 2020 season will be held Sunday afternoon at Dillon Motor Speedway. Street Stock racers from throughout the country will flock to the South Carolina oval for the traditional New Year’s Bash. To get you ready for the big race, we take a look at the New Year’s Bash in this edition of “By the Numbers” on Speed51.
2: Two-time race winner Ricky Locklair, Jr. leads a group of 13 South Carolina drivers who will be looking to defend their turf come Sunday afternoon in the 110-lap race.
2: Racing on Sunday begins at 2 p.m., but you should get there early to get a good seat to catch all the action.
3: Since his win in 2015, Jeff Melton has posted three-top 10 finishes and two top-five runs. His best run since his win was a second-place finish in 2018.
03: Kevin Eby is a master at Hickory Motor Speedway, but the multi-time track champion in North Carolina last ran this race in 2015. We expect he’ll do better than his 19th-place finish that day.
4: Gary Ledbetter Jr. is the defending champion of this race and has won the event four times (2012, 2013, 2017 and 2019). In the last two versions of the race he didn’t win, he still finished within the top five.
5: Two plus three equals five, and the podium finishers from a year ago will be working with each other to get a victory at Dillon Motor Speedway. Frankie Kimmel will be out of the seat this weekend, so he’ll be helping his buddy Chuck Barnes Jr. who is seeking his first win in this race.
44: Last year, 44 Street Stocks answered the call to try and make the main event. The starting field featured 31 cars when the green flag flew.
45: This year’s expected entry list features 45 drivers from 14 different states.
50: The Challenger AR Feature, which is a part of the racing card, will be 50 laps.
56: Wayne Locklair, who pilots the No. 56 car, has four top 10 runs in this race in the last five runnings. He was fifth a year ago.
97: The midwest audience will be watching the No. 97 mount of James Swan. The Late Model and Mid-American Stock Car champion won the race in 2014 and he wants to get it again this year.
110: The Street Stock feature will be 110 Laps around the Dillon Motor Speedway.
500: The B-main is worth $500 to the victor.
2500: The winner of the Street Stock race will get $2,500 for the victory.
