The 2016 Bowman Gray season comes to an end this Saturday night. Speed51.com will be on hand as a championship will be decided in the top Modified division. Championships will also be decided in the the support classes as well.
1: Burt Myers is in the number one Modified and all eyes will be on him as he looks to win his seventh Modified track championship at the famed Bowman Gray Stadium.
8: The amount of points separating second-place man Tim Brown and Burt’s brother, Jason Myers.
8: There have been eight different Modified winners this season: Burt Myers, Tim Brown, Jason Myers, Chris Fleming, John Smith, Randy Butner, John Boy Brown, and Danny Bohn. Perhaps there will be a ninth winner on the final night.
11: The Myers family has a total of 11 titles at Bowman Gray. Burt Myers has six Modified titles while his uncles Billy and Bobby Myers added four more and Burt’s brother Jason was a Street Stock Champion back in 2001.
71: Burt Myers leads Tim Brown by 71 points. Tim Brown would need to win and have Burt Myers finish 19th to get the title. Car count will be the big story in what could change the strategy when they go green. Last year there were only 18, but last week 21 cars were on hand.
77: The 77 ride of Lee Jeffreys is right there in the top five just like every season. Mr. consistency could be the spoiler like last year when he was second to Jason Myers on the final night. Look for the 77 to run well.
80: Tim Brown’s number of wins at Bowman Gray Stadium.
83: The famed blue 83 of Tim Brown leads the track stats in career wins, track titles and poles in Modified action.
150: The number of laps for the season finale at Bowman Gray Stadium.
172: The Myers Family has a total of 172 wins at Bowman Gray Stadium. Burt Myers has 68 career wins leading the way as his brother Jason has 28 wins. Their dad Gary has 38 and uncles Billy and Bobby accounted for another 38 wins.
400: Tim Brown has close to more than 400 top 10 runs at Bowman Gray Stadium. Good finishes are a path to a track title and Tim Brown has 10.
Breaking a Tie: If Burt Myers can win the championship he will break a tie with Pee Wee Jones and rival Junior Miller. Burt would move into third behind only Tim Brown and Ralph Brinkley.
The Wild Sportsman: In order for Zack Clifton to repeat as track champion he will need to overcome 29-point deficit. Clifton trails Tommy Neal who has been good and consistent with 18 runs in the top 10. John Holleman and Michael Adams are within striking distance depending on car count.
Street Stocks to Wire: It will come down to the wire for defending track champion Derrick Rice. He leads Brian Wall by eight markers heading into the final weekend.
Stadium Stocks Living up the Hype: Three guys and only 20 points between them and we don’t know how the chips will fall. AJ Sanders leads Billy Cameron Jr. and Bryan Sykes. Only Sanders has been a former track champion in the past, but with double points anything can happen in this crew.
