Before Alabama timber rattlesnakes grow to become up to five feet in length, they are babies that are smaller in size.  Likewise, before we get to the prestigious Rattler 250 this Sunday at South Alabama Speedway, we turn our attention to the Baby Rattler 125 for Pro Late Models.

To get you ready for the race our resident “Stat Boy” Elgin Traylor takes a look at the Baby Rattler 125 in this edition of “By the Numbers” on

3: Bubba Pollard is the only three-time winner of the Baby Rattler.  The veteran Georgia driver has 10 prior starts in this race and eight top-10 finishes. He has completed every lap he’s ever run in this event.

5: Cole Anderson broke a Pro Late Model Florida Speedweeks record by winning five times in a week to capture the Pro Late Model title.  He’ll look to capitalize on that momentum by winning the Baby Rattler this weekend.

22: As of late Wednesday, the car count was just over 20 cars with 22 entries files.  More cars are always expected to show up on race weekend.

51: Stephen Nasse has run the Pro Rattler 125 three times and he has three top five runs including a win in 2016. The other two efforts for Nasse in this race were runner-up finishes.  Nasse has been a model of consistency over the past year having won the Southern Super Series title and the Super Late Model title during Florida Speedweeks.

51TV: Race fans worldwide will be able to watch both days of racing via a live pay-per-view broadcast on A two-day video ticket can be purchased for $39.99.  Individual tickets for each day can also be purchased by clicking here.

125: The main event will be 125 laps.  This race has been shortened in the past when it was run on the same day as the Rattler 250.

176: Augie Grill has led the most laps in this event since 2009.  He has controlled the field for 176 laps in the Baby Rattler.

854: It’s 854 miles from Portage, MI to Opp, AL as Carson Hocevar looks to do the double in his first trip to South Alabama Speedway.

On the Heels of Speedweeks: Mason Diaz was the 2017 track champion at Southern National Motorsports Park (NC).  That transferred into a Pro Late Model win at Speedweeks in February and now he’s ready to tackle the Pro Rattler 125.  No Virginia driver has ever won the Baby Rattler 125.

Georgia Strong: Georgia drivers lead the way with six Baby Rattler wins.  Alabama drivers are represented with four wins, while Florida has two wins.

Back in the South: Justin South is always in the mix in the Pro Late Model world.  South took the victory in the Baby Ratter 125 a year ago for his first win in the event.  South has led 167 laps in this event during the last three seasons.

Hometown Hero: Korey Ruble, a local standout driver, is a two-time winner of the Baby Rattler 125.  He has five top-five runs and seven finishes in the top 10.  A footnote to Ruble’s career is that he ran the Rattler 250 one year on one set of tires when the track was paved.  Needless to say no one will ever do that again anytime soon.

Triple in the South: tracked down drivers Bubba Pollard and Casey Roderick this week and we learned they are both pulling triple duty.  Both drivers will run the Baby Rattler 125 and the Rattler 250.  After that, Roderick will run a Modified.  Pollard will be on the dirt at Southern Raceway in Florida on Friday.
