By the Numbers: 2020 Southern All Stars Series

This weekend, the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will tackle Deep South Speedway (AL) for a doubleheader weekend in the Duels in Dixie.  Race fans will be able to watch both nights of the event on Speed51.




Before this weekend’s racing, we take you “By the Numbers” into a look at the history of the Southern All Stars entering their third weekend of racing in 2020.


0: The Southern All Stars Dirt Series have run all over the southeast, but they have never run at Deep South Speedway. This will be first trip to the Alabama track.


2: There have been two races in 2020 and Dale McDowell has won them both.  He won March Madness at Cherokee Speedway, and he won at Thunderhill Raceway in Tennessee in May.


4: Clint Smith and Riley Hickman each have four career championships in the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series. Hickman actually won his four titles consecutively, from 2013 to 2016.


30: Friday night’s race will be 30 laps for the Southern All Stars.


34: The series drew 34 cars the last time out at Thunderhill Raceway in Tennessee.


37: There have been 37 champions crowned in this series, with 16 of them coming from the state of Tennessee. Georgia is second in the state race with 13, with Mississippi in third boasting three champions from their state.


50: Saturday night’s race will be 50 laps for the Southern All Stars.

63: Ronnie Johnson is the all-time series winner with 63 career wins. McDowell has 44 wins and is still winning as of this year.


88: This will be the 88th different track that the SAS Dirt Series has been too.  They have been to Alabama several times, but never to Deep South Speedway.
