Butch Shay Memorial Up Next for ULTIMATE Heart of America

The ULTIMATE Heart of America Super Late Model Series returns to action Saturday, and the road to the Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial continues at Richmond Raceway (KY).  On Saturday, July 17, the Super Late Models will race for $5,000 in the 7th Annual Butch Shay Memorial.

The road to the Butterball Memorial continues this weekend with the Butch Shay Memorial at Richmond Raceway (KY).

The Butch Shay Memorial started in 2015 and has been contested every year since at Richmond Raceway.  The first four runnings saw four different winners, with Victor Lee, Michael Chilton, Jason Jameson and Jared Hawkins all going to victory lane at the tight 1/3-mile.

In the last two seasons, Zack Dohm has been the man to beat in the Butch Shay Memorial, scoring victories in both 2019 and 2020.  Dohm also enters the weekend as the latest ULTIMATE Heart of America winner at Richmond, taking the checkered flag during the series’ season opener at “The Beast of the East” in April.

HIGHLIGHTS: ULTIMATE HOA Season Opener

The winner of the Butch Shay Memorial receives a provisional starting spot in the feature event at the Butterball Memorial, scheduled for August 20-21.  With local drivers, ULTIMATE Heart of America mainstays and even top drivers from across the country often making the trip to the $20,059-to-win event, that provisional could prove crucial for one lucky driver.

The racing card at Richmond on Saturday will also include UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models and KDRA Super Stocks.  Grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m, with hot laps scheduled for 6 p.m. to kick off the night’s program.
