(Editor’s Note: Series officials for the Renegades of Dirt announced Wednesday, February 11th, that KC Burdette’s win has been taken away after he failed the post race tire analysis. The win has been awarded to second-place finisher, David Stremme.)
Night number two for the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds – Southern Tour at Winter Freeze V belonged to KC Burdette. The West Virginia driver took the lead from the onset and never looked back, opening a nearly three second lead at one point.
For the second straight night, cautions marred the opening few laps before a long green flag run finished out the 30 lap A-Main. Burdette was able to use good track conditions to rocket himself out front on each restart and was never under pressure for the top spot.
“I thought the track might blow over like it did last night, but it never did,” Burdette told the fans in his post-race interview. “This track was awesome tonight. You could run up high, down low, pretty much go wherever you wanted to.”
For Burdette it was his first career Renegades of Dirt Modified Series win.
As he did in night one, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Stremme had all eyes on him as he moved up from a fifth starting spot to second before setting his sights on the top spot. Although he looked to be catching Burdette early, Stremme was battling his own car as much as any competition on the track.
“I lost power steering about ten laps in. I don’t know how I finished. I should’ve wrecked about three or four times there,” said the back-to-back runner up finisher. “Oh well. We have another piece we’ll work on for tomorrow night.”
Fast-qualifier Shon Flanery rounded out the podium after a great battle with Jake Hawkins for that spot throughout the opening half of the race.
“Well at least we went forward tonight instead of backward like last night.” said the Church Hill, Tenessee driver. “Those two guys, man they were quick tonight.” he said of Burdette and Stremme.
Stremme and the rest of the Renegades of Dirt Modified drivers are scheduled to be joined by fellow NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Reutimann, who officials confirmed late Friday is expected to be behind the wheel of the #00 machine for the final night of Winter Freeze V action.
