Bud Perry led every lap of Saturday night’s 75-lap Main Event Racing Series feature at Ohio’s Lorain County Speedway, setting the stage for Baer Field Motorsports Park’s (IN) 110-lap Stan Perry Memorial on June 10.
Perry, who started from the pole after a four-car invert, held off a late charge from Steve Needles to lead the race flag-to-flag. His win at Lorain follows previous successes at New Paris Speedway (IN) and Sandusky Speedway (OH).
“Feels great, we’ve started seasons where we’ve had three to four DNF’s right out of the box. That will take the wind out of your sails right away. But you know we always kept digging and this year we’ve started with three wins and a fourth,” Perry told Speed51.com powered by JEGS about his quick start to the 2017 season.
Perry continued, talking about the importance of his momentum heading to Baer Field next weekend.
“It’s great going into my dad’s memorial race since it’s a track similar to Sandusky. I’ve run there quite a bit and won there a lot. Wouldn’t it be cool to win that 10-lap, $10,000 [to win] show? I mean it’s just a luck of the draw since you have ten laps to get it done. If I don’t get that I’d like to get the other one since it could be the last one, and I want to win it for him.”
Needles, who won the ARCA Gold Cup Super Six Series opener at Toledo, says he stills has a bit to learn about the new American Racer tires that the Main Event Racing Series is using this year.
“This is our first time here, first time on these tires,” he explained. “I tightened the car up a bit too much for race, wasn’t sure what it was going to do. I just played it a bit too conservative. Bud had the set-up, and his car was fast. Another twenty-five laps and we may have had something for him. He was pretty stout.”
The Main Event Racing Series will have their next race on July 3 at Midvale Speedway (OH). Midvale recently increased the purse, making the race $5,000 to win and $500 to start.
Outlaw Super Late Models will be running Saturday, June 10 at Baer Field Motorsports Park in the Stan Perry Memorial in a pair of features. A special invitational 10-lap, $10,000-to-win race will be held earlier in the night, with drivers drawing pills for starting position. Later, teams will run the 110-lap Stan Perry Memorial in two 55-lap segments. The Outlaw Super Late Model features will join the ARCA/CRA Super Series and five local divisions for a full night of racing.
