Late Model racer Bradley McCaskill was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital Saturday night after being involved in a frightening crash at East Carolina Motor Speedway (NC).
McCaskill was racing near the front during the first of two 35-lap races when contact with another car sent his No. 18 spinning on the frontstretch with the driver’s side facing the rest of the field. A handful of cars made contact during the incident, but the crash intensified when the No. 7 of Louis White made hard contact with McCaskill’s driver’s side door before coming to a rest on top of McCaskill’s driver’s side window.
McCaskill suffered burns when hot water from White’s radiator poured onto him as he sat trapped in the driver’s seat. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for burns. McCaskill’s cousin and fellow racer Deac McCaskill said Saturday night on Twitter that Bradley has “first degree burns all over his body.”
Early Sunday morning, McCaskill’s mother Janet-Berry McCaskill said that Bradley had sustained second degree burns on his hands and burns on his thighs. He had also been transported from the hospital to Chapel Hill Burn Center, where doctors anticipate him recovering for 1-2 weeks.
According to McCaskill’s spotter and best friend, Robert Arch, McCaskill was awake, alert and making jokes but in a lot of pain as he was being stabilized.
