Anderson Bowen and the No. 29 Copper Creek Hardware Super Late Model team proved to be resilient on Friday night at Montgomery Speedway (AL).  Bowen, of Suwannee, Georgia, rebounded to finish fifth in the Southern Super Series Yellowhammer 125 after battling a leaking right rear tire during the early stages of the 125-lap event.

“I fell like all and all it was a good weekend,” said Bowen.  “Coming from the back and driving to the front was a good experience.  I learned a lot passing cars and making quick moves on the track to get track position.”

After starting in the sixth position, Bowen battled near the top-five during the early portion of the race before having to battle loose conditions as a result of the right rear tire going down.  Nearing the competition caution on lap 75, Bowen was lapped by the leaders but was able to fight to remain the first car one lap down.

When the competition caution came out on lap 75, Bowen was the recipient of the “Lucky Dog” and re-joined the lead lap cars.  During the caution period, the No. 29 team changed the flat right rear tire and made adjustments in order to give Bowen a car capable of driving back to the front.

Following the restart, the 16-year-old racer sliced and diced through the field during the later stages of the race before crossing under the checkered flag in the fifth position.

Despite the struggles he had while battling a leaking tire early in the event, Bowen feels as though the team performed well and learned some things for the next time they visit Montgomery Speedway.

“Our car was decent,” said Bowen.  “I feel like we know what to do to make it better.  We just needed to roll the center a little bit better to be able to be competitive and compete for the win with (race winner) Donnie (Wilson). “

Bowen will take a break from Super Late Model action this upcoming weekend as he makes his second ARCA Racing Series start of the 2014 season for Cunningham Motorsports on Sunday, July 6 at the high-banked Winchester Speedway (IN).
