Winston-Salem, NC (September 5, 2014) – Short Track Management (STM) is proud to announce a special bonus to the winner of the 25-lap Street Stock feature at the US Open on Saturday, September 20.
East Coast Speed of Stafford, NY, the official supplier of Street Stock tires, will present the feature winner with a brand new set of racing tires for the 2015 season. Bob Mullen, the owner of East Coast Speed, reached out to STM with the offer to entice teams to step up their game for the US Open.
The Street Stock feature is expected to be a showdown between the top teams not only on asphalt, but on dirt as well. The Street Stock rules package for the US Open was expanded to allow cars that run the Charger division from Holland Speedway as well as Ransomville Speedway’s Street Stock division. It will be the first time for drivers that normally compete on the dirt at Ransomville to race on the pavement at Lancaster.
Veteran Lancaster Street Stock driver, Nate Straus, has been competing on the dirt at Ransomville on Friday nights for the first time in his career while still running Saturdays at his home track. Straus has been helping to recruit his fellow competitors on the dirt to try their hand at racing on pavement.
Straus’s father, Paul, and his business Custom Pinstriping by Paul has created a special trophy that will be presented to the first Ransomville car across the finish line in the feature. In addition, STM has added a $150 bonus that will go to that driver as well.
The 26th annual US Open at Lancaster Speedway begins on Friday, September 19 with a practice session followed by the US Open Kickoff Party in the speedway concourse. Pit gates will open at 4 PM on Friday with practice taking place from 6-10 PM. The Legends, 4-Cylinders, Street Stocks and Sportsman will run heats and features on Saturday with the Late Models running their heat races as well. The night will be capped off by a fantastic fireworks display provided by Gisbon including a special tribute to Tony Jankowiak and Tommy Druar. Racing on Sunday will begin with Modified, Super Stock and TQ Midgets heats followed by the remaining features including the 125-lap main event for the Race of Champions Modified Tour.
