The Battle at Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway (MI) has always been a big race, but this year it has the potential to be even bigger as a result of a massive purse of over $100,000. Yes, 100-grand in purse guaranteed money and a guaranteed $10,000 to the winner.
While that in itself is a nice pay day for template Super Late Model teams, there’s a chance that when the checkered flag flies on June 16, the winner could be taking home even more money. CRA Super Series officials and Berlin Raceway have decided to offer an additional $10,000 if the winner of the Battle had never raced at Berlin prior to the start of the 2015 season.
On top of that, any driver that had never raced at Berlin before 2015 that scores a top five finish is eligible for the “New Star” bonus. All of these bonuses are in addition to the guaranteed $2,000 just to start the race.
“The track has really stepped up to separate themselves from many events across the country,” CRA’s R.J. Scott told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “People are always talking about there not being enough big events, well for new people, here is your shot at a $25,000-plus payday. The Berlin folks are serious about their event and they want new people to come be a part of this great event and see all the exciting stuff they have at their facility. If you’ve never had much success at Berlin or have never even been there, then they’ve built these bonuses just for you!”
While those bonuses may seem like a lot, Berlin Raceway is offering even more. The fast qualifier will receive $1,000, the leader of the most laps will get $500, the leader at halfway will receive $500, and the recipient of the hard luck award will also receive $500.
Teams interested in chasing the hefty bonuses offered by Berlin Raceway have an opportunity to gain experience at the track while still being eligible for the bonus money. The ARCA/CRA Super Series 125-lap event at the track on Saturday, May 16 will provide teams an excellent chance to turn laps at the track while still maintaining eligibility for the $10,000 bonus if they’ve never competed at the track previously.
