Belsito Prevails in GSPSS Triple 20s at Mad Dog

A unique race format and an ill-handling car were not enough to slow Angelo Belsito down on Sunday afternoon, as he dominated the Granite State Pro Stock Series show at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH.  Belsito was able to outpace the entire field en route to his fourth victory in the Granite State Pro Stock Series and first at the ¼-mile New Hampshire bullring known as “Mad Dog.”

The race was split into three 20-lap features.  At the end of each feature, the field was inverted, and the driver with the best average finish at the conclusion of the third segment would be declared the winner.  Belsito won the first two segments, and finished third in the final segment to secure the overall victory ahead of Devin O’Connell and Gabe Brown.

REPLAY: GSPSS TRIPLE 20’S AT MONADNOCK

“All in all a good day,” Belsito said.  “I knew it was going to be rough with three 20-lap segments, but we came away with the win.  We won the first two races which set me up to just kind of cruise in the third race and take my time.

“All in all not too happy with the way the car felt.  Raced here last year, and I liked the car a lot better.  Just struggled here all day, kept fighting for it, but the car could have been a lot better for me.”

Devin O’Connell also had an incredibly fast machine, but ran into trouble early on.  He came together with Stafford rival Adam Gray in each of the first two segments, resulting in a spin and some heavy contact.  However, he was able to win the final segment, which was enough for second-place overall finish.

“It is what it is. I can guarantee I wasn’t rolling the centers as fast as [Gray] was. You got three 20-lap races, you go from Lap 1. Given the circumstances, I can’t hold a grudge to that, it is what it is. We’ll move on to the next race.” – Devin O’Connell

Gabe Brown gave Belsito a challenge throughout the race, but a fourth-place finish in the final segment meant he could only lock down third position overall.  Mike Mitchell recovered from a pair of second-segment spins and a trip to the pits to finish fourth, and Adam Gray recorded a career-best, fifth-place finish.
