As the Valenti Modified Racing Series searches for a new race director for the 2014 racing season, series president Jack Bateman told Speed51.com on Tuesday that he will serve as interim race director until the position is filled.
Bateman confirmed on Tuesday that the series is currently looking to fill the race director position following the departure of Scott Tapley, who had previously held the position for over one year.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have a race director,” said Bateman. “That means that I will have to do the work that Scott was doing. I’m OK with that. I’ve done it before. It’s a little hectic, but I’ll do what I have to do to keep things in order and keep things moving along smoothly.”
When speaking with Speed51.com powered by JEGS, Bateman echoed Tapley’s words saying that the two parties parted ways due to philosophical differences.
“I think the simplest explanation is that we had philosophical differences and pretty much that’s it,” said Bateman. “Let’s just say it’s happened over a period of time. We’ve tried to work together to resolve it, unsuccessfully.”
With the departure of Tapley, who also serves as a web designer in his spare time, Bateman believes one of the more difficult things to replace will be the impact that Tapley had connecting the series with its fans.
“One of the things Scott was very good at was the social media sort of thing,” said Bateman. “He did a really nice job with the website, which is going to be a real problem for me to replace that. We’ll do what we have to do.”
Despite having disagreements on how things should be run while working together to organize the series, Bateman believes that Tapley’s ideas may work somewhere else and wishes him the best with his future in the sport.
“Like I said to him, it just wasn’t working,” said Bateman. “I think Scott’s ideas may work for someone else, but they didn’t work for me. I have absolutely no ill feeling towards Scott whatsoever. I think he’s a good guy and I wish him the best.”
The Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to action on Friday, June 20 at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT).
