The richest Outlaw Kart race in North America returns to Millbridge Speedway (NC) on Wednesday, May 22, as the Speed51 Open will once again highlight the track's May calendar.
The Speed51 Open offers the largest purse in Outlaw Kart racing competitors, paying more than $5,000. A driver can also leave with more than $30,000 in winnings thanks in part to the Back Row Bonus, which returns for the 2019 edition of the event.
“We’re really excited to see if somebody can take the Back Row Bonus,” Millbridge Speedway promoter Ashly Burnett told Speed51. “It’s been a couple of years since we’ve started offering it, and nobody’s gotten it yet.”
The Speed51 Open pays $5,151 to the winner of the 51-lap Open Division Outlaw Kart feature, which often draws big names such as Kyle Larson, Nick Hoffman and Logan Seavey to the 1/6-mile oval in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Only one driver will enter the feature race with a chance to win the $25,000 Back Row Bonus, however. The winner of the pole shuffle earlier in the evening will be given the opportunity to relinquish their pole position and start last in the race. If the driver accepts the challenge and races through the field to take the win, he or she will be awarded the $25,000.
If that driver declines the challenge, the opportunity will be given to the next driver (second-place finisher in the pole shuffle, third-place finisher, etc.) in line until one driver accepts the challenge. If necessary, the challenge will be offered all the way to the last qualifier in order to give one driver a chance at the big payday.
Stay tuned to Speed51 for more updates on the 2019 Speed51 Open, which promises to be yet another exciting edition of Outlaw Karts’ richest race.
