TOLEDO, Ohio — The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is headed back to Daytona Int’l Speedway for another open test Friday, January 16 in preparation for the 52nd annual Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real coming February 14, 2015.
The event marks the first time the series has conducted an open test in January at Daytona ahead of the race event in February.
“The December test at Daytona International Speedway is a long-standing ARCA tradition,” said ARCA President Ron Drager. “We’ve literally been doing that for decades. This January test came about for two reasons. One, it gave teams who wanted to invest in the new ARCA Ilmor 396 engine another 30 days to acquire the engine and, two, NASCAR’s testing ban made the track available.”
Currently, as many as 30 drivers are expected for the open test…all this following the open test in December when 49 drivers participated.
Empire Racing, with drivers Sean Corr and Patrick Staropoli, were fastest overall in December testing and are scheduled to return for Friday’s open test.
Cunningham Motorsports will also be returning for the second test with veteran Tom Hessert driving, as well as newcomer Blake Jones, set to turn his first laps in an ARCA Racing Series car.
Defending race winner Team BCR is also returning, but with a different driver in the 90 car…that being six-time series winner Brennan Poole.
Also returning for the second test are Kimmel Racing with driver Will Kimmel and the defending ARCA Racing Series championship team Mason Mitchell Motorsports with drivers Mason Mitchell and SCOTT Rookie of the Year Austin Wayne Self.
Ken Schrader Racing (KSR) is also entered with series veteran Mark Thompson driving. KSR participated in the first test, but with Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell in the driver’s chair.
A portion of the Oldfield grandstands will be open to the public during the test.
ARCAracing.com will feature live timing and scoring of all on-track activities, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5 daily, with an hour break for lunch at noon.
