Anderson Speedway a Home Away From Home for Dorer

While Steve Dorer is now based in Florida, he originally hails from the state of Michigan.  Thus, the racer and General Manager of Racecar Engineering takes any chance he gets to make the trip to the Midwest to get behind the wheel.

One of his favorite places to race when he travels north is Anderson Speedway, the site of this weekend’s JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Sport Clips 100.  Dorer is a former JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour winner at the Indiana quarter-mile, and he hopes to add to that collection on Saturday.

“The last two JEGS races there, I felt like we had a good shot at winning,” Dorer told Speed51.  “We had some rough restarts with some people, but I feel like we had a strong shot at it.  Tim has done a really good with Finish Line Cars and Jimmy.  I think we’ve got a good shot at it, to be honest.”

There are several reasons Dorer loves to race at Anderson.  From the fact that it’s a high-banked quarter-mile, to the chance to race with Champion Racing Association, to being close to his old stomping grounds, it’s a can’t-miss trip for Dorer.

“I like high-banked tracks, I like quarter-miles.  It’s close to my Michigan home, it’s within a couple of hours.  I enjoy the series and Glenn Luckett.  I enjoy the race track, it makes it fun to go to.”

Dorer is no stranger to smaller bullrings, with many of Florida’s short tracks sharing that characteristic.  However, Anderson features significantly more banking than tracks such as Citrus County Speedway or Showtime Speedway, presenting a different element to prepare for.

There’s not a lot of grip in Florida because of the flat tracks.  Anderson has a lot more grip, because of the banking.  I race all over, so it’s always something different.  Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, wherever.  You just adjust to where you’re at and do the best you can.

What does it take to win on the tight Anderson Speedway?  For Dorer, it starts with believing you have the car and the ability to take the checkered flag first.

“To receive, you’ve got to believe.  At the end of the day, you have to believe you can win it.  I believe I’m as good as anyone there and I have as good a shot as anyone.  Get the car right, make good decisions, we’ll absolutely have a great shot at winning.”
