Last year Willie Allen had to battle through the Last Chance Qualifier to finish second in the All American 400 at Tennessee’s Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville after having his qualifying time disallowed in tech. This year, Allen’s time is allowed to stand, which is great for him because he’ll start from the pole position for the 31st Annual All American 400.
Allen’s second lap time of 18.715 seconds is the time of record, beating out David Garbo for the top spot by one tenth of a second.
“This feels really nice,” Allen told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “Especially after getting the pole, getting disqualified would have been devastating.”
This year, one driver did get disqualified, and that was Dominique Van Weiringen who was second fastest before having the time thrown out by chief technical inspector Ricky Brooks. Van Weiringen’s no. 5 machine was found to be too wide at the front of the car in post-qualifying tech.
Van Weiringen was in a back-up car after crashing hard in practice. She said earlier in the day that she thought something must have broke because she just went right around on the exit of turn four.
Garbo, Bret Holmes, Cole Williams and Dillon Oliver complete the top five for Sunday’s All American 400.
The top 28 cars locked their way into Sunday’s field, with the rest of the 36-car field being determined by Saturday night’s Last Chance Qualifier. Big names like Zane Smith, Dalton Sargeant and Van Wieringen will try to race their way into Sunday’s race in that 50-lap showdown.
