The Southeast Dirt Modified Series roared back to life on Friday night at Fayetteville Motor Speedway (NC), contesting its first event since 2017. A field of 17 cars showed up for the event, with Christian Thomas taking the checkered flag in the 20-lap feature event.
Thomas held off several valiant charges from Daniel Parker over the course of the event to take his No. 7T to victory lane at Fayetteville.
“Man, I don’t really know who was behind me,” said Thomas in victory lane. “I think it was Daniel. He was giving me a fit. We just missed the car a little bit tonight. I guess it was good enough to win.”
While Thomas took the win, he initially wasn’t even sure if he’d be competing in the Modified race on Friday night. His initial plans for the night only involved his Dirt Late Model, but the team made a quick turnaround on the Modified to bring it as well.
That decision proved to be a wise one, as he was standing tall in victory lane at night’s end.
“We pulled an all-nighter to get ready. I didn’t think I’d be here tonight with this race car. I thought we’d just have the Late Model, but I guess it worked out.”
Shawn Martin finished third in the event, with Hunter McClendon fourth and Austin Holcombe rounding out the top five.
The Southeast Dirt Modified Series will continue a doubleheader weekend on Saturday at County Line Raceway, less than 100 miles north along Interstate 95 in Elm City, North Carolina. Fans unable to attend the County Line event will be able to watch live on Speed51.
