One week from today, short track racers from seven different divisions will begin pulling into Five Flags Speedway for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby Presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club. In addition to the over 100 Late Models entered between the Snowball Derby (Super Late Models) and Snowflake 100 (Pro Late Models), entries are beginning to fly into the speedway office for the rest of the divisions that will compete during the week.
Overall, 173 entries have been filed for the week of Wednesday, December 5 through Sunday, December 8 with many more local division entries expected during the race weekend. Race fans can get their first look at the entry lists for the Outlaw Stocks, Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Sportsmen and Pure Stocks now on Speed51’s Snowball Central.
As is the case every year at the Snowball Derby, these entry lists will only grow from here as the five divisions listed above don’t require a pre-entry for a pit stall. This means that several competitors normally show up and file their entry on race day.
The first feature race of the weekend, the WCIParts.com Pro Truck 50 on Thursday night, currently includes the names of 13 drivers. Leading the list of current entries is defending race winner Josh Hicks, a driver who scored the biggest win of his career one year ago at the Snowball Derby. 2019 Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville track champion Jackson Boone, multi-time feature winner Logan Boyett and former Kulwicki Driver Development Program driver Cody Haskins are also among the early entries for the race.
Soon after the Pro Truck winner is crowned Thursday night, the Dock of Pensacola Beach Sportsmen will roll out for their main event. While defending race winner Shanna Ard has yet to file an official entry form, last year’s runner-up and frequent contender Mark Barnhill leads the list of entries for their 50-lap race. A strong field of drivers from Alabama and Florida will join Barnhill; however, a surprise entry from Jason Gammon has been received all the way from Hollis, Maine.
The third and final feature race Thursday night will see the Pure Stocks move back into the lineup after having the show to themselves on Wednesday night one year ago. Defending race winner Caleb Burkett has filed his entry, as has Chance Imel who won last year’s race before losing the trophy in technical inspection.
Friday night’s action will be highlighted by Super Late Model qualifying, but the night will end with a 75-lap season finale for the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour. Defending Snowball Derby Modified winner and two-time Snowball Derby winner Augie Grill leads a list of drivers that includes Korey Ruble, Cody Stickler, Jeff Letson and more.
Pro Late Models will be in the spotlight Saturday night during the Snowflake 100 and will be joined by a highly-anticipated Faith Chapel Outlaws 50-lap race. This year, the Outlaw Stock division has grown in popularity with a whopping 25 cars already on the entry list for the race.
