Upperlake’s Jeremy Doss defended his home turf by dominating the 75 lap Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com race at Ukiah Speedway on Saturday night but it was Granite Bay’s John Moore getting the 2015 series championship.

Moore did everything he needed to do at the quarter-mile asphalt oval, taking the Sunoco Fuels Fast Time with a 12.672 lap in the #27 JM Environmental Camaro.  He went on to drive from his eighth starting position after the invert to a fourth place finish for his first Late Model championship in 15 years of racing.

“Well you know it feels good.  Its the first time for me.  Race car championships are hard to come by.  I know exactly how hard you have to work for it,”  Moore said.  “We only won one race (this year).  We went into the season and the biggest thing is I wanted to be a champion.  When that is your final goal you need to race smart.”

Elk Grove’s Ron Chunn started on the pole in the #44 Snapple Chevrolet with fellow Elk Grove racer Mike Hite on his tail.  Hite and Chunn came together on the 12th lap of the race and Grass Valley’s Don Swartz was tangled up as well.  All three cars continued on.

That thrust sixth starting Doss into the lead with rookie Cole Moore in second position.  Upperlake’s James Stillman enjoyed a fifth place run for many laps before falling out on lap 28.

John Moore trailed second in points and 2014 champion Mike Beeler for the third position throughout the lightning fast 35 minute event, but it was still enough to claim the championship.  Doss took a 1.498 second victory over Cole Moore, Beeler, John Moore, and JR Courage.  Swartz drove back to sixth position while Chunn was scored seventh at the finish.

Moore’s fourth place effort was parlayed into a ten point lead over Beeler in the final standings.  Cole Moore finished third ahead of Chunn, Swartz, and Hite to round out the full-time entries for 2015.  The balance of the top-ten included Folsom rookie Hunter Corbitt, Eagle, ID’s Travis Milburn, Doss, and Auburn’s Austin Gant.  Cole Moore’s season which included four top-fives was strong enough to give him Rookie of the Year for 2015 as well.

While Saturday’s event at Ukiah Speedway will conclude the 2015 Pacific Challenge Series points championship, perhaps the series’ biggest race is on tap for October 17th.  33 teams have pre-entered for the prestigious “October Classic 100” held during the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West races at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA.
