The Pro Late Models went back to sprint racing on Friday night following their 100-lap feature Thursday. Friday night’s 35-lap event was a special night for young Canadian Raphael Lessard, who earned his first career victory in a Pro Late Model.

The 14-year-old from St-Joseph de Beauce, Quebec stormed past Ryan Miles on the backstretch to take the lead on lap 19. Lessard managed to hold Miles off on a lap-20 restart from the inside to seal the victory.

“The car was good on the inside so we decided to start inside,” Lessard said on the FansChoice.TV broadcast.  “I think it was a good decision.”

The victory for Lessard comes after a very rough beginning to Speedweeks after losing his original car in multiple incidents in the first couple of nights. After his team put the crate engine into the car originally piloted by Todd Gilliland to start Speedweeks, Lessard saw a steady improvement which ended in the victory.

“It’s awesome,” Lessard said.  “We had a good car all week, we had a couple of incidents, but I can’t thank my team enough because they work very hard to prepare the car and it’s awesome.”

Cole Anderson charged late to finish second while Daniel Keene Jr., Derek Thorn, and Ryan Miles rounded out the top five.

The Florida Modifieds had a familiar face in victory lane Friday night, as Cody Stickler took home his third win of the 2016 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Stickler led wire-to-wire after taking the lead on the first lap from the outside pole position from Alan Bruns.

Travis Eddy moved up from his sixth starting position to finish second while Alan Bruns, Josh Todd, and Camron Ray completed the top five.

Both divisions will decide their championships Saturday night as they run 35-lap features to lead off the night in advance of the 100-lap Super Late Model feature.
