2016 will mark the debut of the 602 Super Limited Series. This new tour is being presented by Sugar Hill Golden Ale. The official name will be The Sugar Hill 602 Super Limited Series. This new tour has been organized by Limited Late Model Racer and Promoter of the popular Mischa Sell Memorial Race David Sell. The events will pay $800 to win and $100 to start, with several bonuses for each race up for grabs.

4 races are on the 2016 schedule, with plans to expand to 8 events in 2017. The 602 Supers will be the first series on asphalt to utilize the popular Chevrolet 602 crate motor, a current staple on the dirt track circuit. The motor will be paired with . 350cfm carburetor. This motor combo is the only combination legal to run on the series. The tire rule is another thing setting this series apart from others. The durable American Racer Y3 tire, available from Freeman Tires. This tire will be useable for multiple events, saving the racer money. Other progressive rules in place: This use of any chassis, perimeter or offset. No shock or spring rules and the use of any style brake calipers, rotors and pads. While these rules may seem to the outsider as an avenue to open up competitors wallets, Tour President David Sell has a different view on the topic. “This tour is designed to put innovation and ingenuity back into racing. A racer now has the choice to use the equipment he has and the connections he has made. I feel that the racing will set the actual costs, without being mandated by the sanctioning body on what they feel the costs will or should be. Sometimes trying to save a racer money costs extra money to everyone involved. We are in the unique position of starting out with fresh ideas, if those ideas are not the best way to go, we can amend them. But, let’s get racers and mechanics with innovative ideas to be part of the sport again.”

The series will be run and officiated by an experienced group. Brad Allen, former racer and GM of Ace Speedway is tapped as Race Director. Bobby Foley, former racer and head tech official at Bowman Gray Stadium and NASCAR crew member is the Tech Director. Johnnie Murphy and Carrinne Shoffner, both experienced Tech Officials will be Tech Officials on the series and Logan Shoffner will be Assistant Tech Official.

The series will open up at Caraway Speedway in Sophia NC, on Monday July 4th, as part of the Annual Rusty Harpe Memorial, one of the largest Late Model events in the southeast . This event will be 75 laps and will hopefully become an annual event. The series will be off until Saturday September 24th when it will return to Caraway for its second event. Headlining events that night will be the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The 3rd event will be held Saturday October 8th at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina and will be held in conjunction with The 5th Annual Mischa Sell Memorial Race for limited late models. The Series’ finale will take place Saturday November 26th at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia. Also scheduled for this date will be the Southern Modified Tour.

“Seventeen companies have come on board thus far to make this series happen and without their support, this series would just be an idea, not a possibility. So I owe a lot of gratitude to them for believing in what we’re trying to do.” … David Sell, Tour Director, Series President
