51’s Third Turn, Speed51’s partner for preserving short track racing history, has completed its first major project of 2015 with the complete history of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Lucas Dirt Series has been for years recognized as one of the best national Dirt Late Model touring series and is home to some of the sport’s biggest names like Earl Pearson Jr., Scott Bloomquist, Don O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, and Billy Moyer.

Founded in 2004 as the “NARA DirtCar Series”, Lucas Oil began sponsoring the series in 2005 before purchasing interest in the tour ownership during the next offseason. Shannon Babb won during the inaugural season – a brief eight-race tour in 2004 – before the series bloomed to a 30+ race series in 2005. To date, 399 races have taken place under Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanction with a series-record 50 races on schedule for 2015. The 400th race in series history is this Friday night at Jackson Motor Speedway.

Overall, 2150 drivers have suited up to compete in a Lucas Dirt race in the now 12-year history of the tour.

“I’m very excited to provide this information to dirt racing fans everywhere,” said Tim Quievryn, 51’s Third Turn founder and lead researcher. “As Speed51 has grown in dirt coverage the last few years, 51’s Third Turn has come to realize there’s just as much historical information that needs to be found on the dirt side of things as on asphalt. The Lucas Dirt tour is one of the best in all of racing and so choosing it as the first real dirt racing project we’ve completed was a no-brainer. I look forward to continuing to cover this series for years to come and hope fans utilize this resource to enjoy some of the accomplishments of their favorite racers.”

Speed51.com founder Bob Dillner is also heavily involved on the Lucas Dirt side of things in 2015 as he is part of the MAVTV broadcast crew for the series. The Lucas Dirt TV schedule can be found by clicking this link.

“I’m so proud to be part of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this year; it’s some of the best racing in the country,” said Dillner.  To do my homework for the MAVTV shows, I spend a lot of time on The Third Turn powered by Speed51.com.  It’s got everything you’d ever want to know statistically speaking on all the drivers and races in the series history.  It’s something we are very proud of.”
