Dirt Late Models
Three-time World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Josh Richards showed why his nickname is “Rocket Man” during the month of February. Richards, piloting the No. 1 Rocket Chassis house car, scored a total of seven wins in 15 races to break the all-time record for Dirt Late Model wins during Florida Speedweeks. As a result of his record-breaking performance, the Shinnston, West Virginia driver has been named the FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month on Speed51.com for the month of February.
In 15 races with three different series at five different race tracks, Richards managed to tally a record 13 top-five finishes, according to DirtonDirt.com.
Richards started off the month at Georgia’s Golden Isles Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, winning two out of three features that made up the Gerogia Boot Super Bowl of Racing. The series moved on to East Bay Raceway Park (FL) a few days later and Richards picked up right where he left off. He scored wins three and four of his 2016 season during the first two nights of competition.
The No. 1 team then made the trek back north to Georgia’s Screven Motor Speedway to begin the 2016 World of Outlaws Late Model Series season. Richards posted second and seventh-place finishes during the two nights of Winter Freeze.
After a runner-up performance in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition at Bubba Raceway Park (FL) on Valentine’s Day, Richards ended his Speedweeks at Volusia Speedway Park for the DIRTcar Nationals. He bested Tim McCreadie on the second night of Late Model action at Volusia before winning two of the three World of Outlaws Late Model series events.
With three wins, five top-five finishes and no finish worse than seventh, Richards earned the “Big Gator” trophy and was crowned the 2016 DIRTcar Nationals Late Model champion.
Richards exits February with the points lead in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and a hefty amount of bragging, all earning him the Team FK Driver of the Month Award.
