Behind every great driver is a great team. The crew members that put in countless hours at the shop and at the track sometimes do not receive the recognition deserved for a job well done. The combination of a great driver and a great crew is the recipe for making great things happen on the track.
That’s why the team at PitBoxes.com, who specialize in fabricating a high quality line of standard and custom pit boxes, is proud to honor a monthly “Pit Crew of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industy insiders will vote on which pit crew helped lead their driver to success on the track. The pit crew with the most votes will then be the “PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Month” and will receive a $100 product certificate to use at PitBoxes.com. At the end of the 2016 season, the pit crew that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Year” and will be awarded a $1,000 product certificate to PitBoxes.com. NASCAR K&N Pro Series East
If there is one team that is on the fast track to success in NASCAR right now it is the team founded under the co-ownership of former racers Hal Martin and Eric McClure. The team, which has won the last two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races, has done so under completely different circumstances, different drivers and at a very young age for the team.
McClure, son of renowned racing owner Larry McClure, whose team fielded the famous Kodak No. 4 cars in NASCAR’s top level for many years, came together with Martin, to run a team that could give young drivers a start. The team began running races in the second half of 2015 after the two had laid the ground work in late 2014 on a trip to Walt Disney World.
Their first young driver would come to be Tennessee and Virginia short track ace Chad Finchum who ran the first races in 2015, while veteran crew chief Chris Carrier called the shots from the pits.
After getting their footing in 2016, the team made their first start at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 16 with Finchum behind the wheel. By day’s end Finchum had conquered the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile. Both Finchum and Martin-McClure racing celebrated their first NASCAR victories in a tearful celebration.
But the team didn’t stop their. They immediately shifted their focus to a different animal, the famous road course of Virginia International Raceway. With a completely different track on tap, the team brought in young Austin Cindric, a 17 year old who’s making his name on America’s road courses in sports cars and single-seaters. Despite the all the differences, Cindric picked up his first NASCAR win, and the second in a row for Martin-McClure Racing.
For taking an idea that started at Disney World and turning it into a race-winning NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team, Martin-McClure Racing has been named Speed51’s PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Month for April.
