Every year, short track racing fans make their way to Pensacola, Florida from each corner of the country to take in the most spectacular short track racing event of the year, the Snowball Derby. However, the first stop for those fans isn’t Five Flags Speedway; it is the Speed51.com annual Snowball Derby Kick-Off Party, which takes place on Snowball Derby Tuesday before any cars hit the track.
For the sixth straight year, Speed51.com, the Official News Site of the Snowball Derby, will once again be hosting the annual party that gets fans, drivers and teams hyped up for the biggest race of the year. This year’s Kick-Off Party, held on Tuesday, December 2, is expected to be even bigger and better than those in years past as the party will move across town to a new Beef ‘O’Brady’s restaurant location, which is located on S. Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola.
“We usually do it every year, but usually it’s across town,” said Beef O’Brady’s owner and former race car driver Tracy Goodson. “We’re going to do it downtown this year. For someone who hasn’t seen downtown Pensacola in the last five years, it has really changed. It’s almost like a mini-Bourbon Street. A lot of bars, a lot of restaurants and it is a really good time. Downtown Pensacola has really changed; it’s been redone historically.”
Speed51.com, the Official News Site and exclusive live coverage provider of the Snowball Derby, will once again have a live broadcast on site. Former Snowball Derby winners, top contenders and other racing personalities will be in attendance at the Kickoff Party as fans at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s and those tuning in at home live on Speed51.com get amped up for the 47th Annual Snowball Derby.
Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 drivers will be in attendance signing autographs before they begin their week at the race track. There will also be a wide variety of games for kids in attendance, as well as drink and food specials for the adults.
The December 2 event will serve as a great opportunity for fans to enjoy some great food and meet their favorite drivers before they watch them compete for the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 wins later in the week.
“We’ll do a cornhole tournament with the drivers and have some other games for the kids as well,” said Goodson. “We’ll have a bunch of drivers down there doing an autograph session and we’d like to get as many drivers and teams down there as we can. Speed51 will be there doing a broadcast and it should be a really good time to kick off Snowball Derby week.”
Goodson, a former driver and current Super Late Model team owner, believes that the Snowball Derby is one of, if not the biggest, events of the year held in the town of Pensacola. He encourages all of the fans to visit the Beef ‘O’Brady’s locations on S. Palafox Street and West Nine Mile Road throughout the week for good food and fun times.
“The Snowball Derby means a lot to these guys around here,” said Goodson. “It’s the largest short track race in the country. It is the Daytona 500 for short track racers. So the fans love it and come from everywhere to watch this race. It’s amazing how many people this place brings in for the races. It’s a big event for Pensacola. It helps the hotels out and helps the restaurants out. It really brings a lot of money to the town so it’s a good deal. We’re glad that we can kick it all off here at Beef ‘O’Brady’s and I hope that fans enjoy it and come back to visit us throughout the week.”
In addition to meeting drivers who will be participating in the Snowball Derby weekend, fans can also win door prizes put up by Speed51.com and JEGS.
