A lot of hype was built up in the months, weeks and days leading into the 50th Annual Snowball Derby. The golden running of the most prestigious asphalt Super Late Model race didn’t disappoint. In fact, it was a resounding success for all involved.
From the drop of the green flag at Tuesday’s Snowball Derby Kickoff Party at Beef O’Brady’s, fans, racers and teams in attendance knew the event was shaping up to be something special. The Snowball Derby is a big event, but those in attendance knew the 50th would be an event they’d never forget.
Surely, it didn’t disappoint. For the first time in event history, racing was held on Wednesday night with a great crowd on hand to watch the 50-lap Pure Stock feature. From there, the excitement surrounding the event only evolved leading into Sunday’s main event.
With a few new enhancements to the race day schedule, fans in attendance were treated to something special. A unique format for driver introductions allowed fans to get up close and personal with drivers before they strapped into their race cars for the big race.
Speaking of fans, there were a lot of them. Reserved tickets sold out, the grandstands were packed and the infield pit area was filled with cars and trucks before driver introductions even began.
For those not in attendance, Speed51.com’s live, television-style broadcast was also a huge success. Fans from all over the world tuned in and watched a multi-camera broadcast featuring a broadcast team, pit reporters and a special 50th Snowball Derby graphics package.
Overall, the 50th Annual Snowball Derby was a resounding success for all. The only thing left to do is make the 51st edition even better. And that is the goal of everyone at Five Flags Speedway.
