“Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park announced on Friday that the 46th annual Liquid Death Icebreaker, originally rescheduled for May 15-16, will not happen during that weekend,” reads Thompson’s announcement. “We continue to work with local and public health officials during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are in constant communication with NASCAR about rescheduling the event and will have further updates when available.”
Last Friday, However, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont extended the state’s stay-at-home order until May 20, and Thompson had acknowledged this order at the time while promising further updates.
The event was originally scheduled for April 3-5, but had been postponed to May 15-16 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier on Friday, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Martinsville Speedway was also postponed as part of NASCAR’s decision to postpone the weekend of racing at the Virginia facility.
With the two postponements, the next scheduled event for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is May 23, when the series is slated to return to Jennerstown Speedway. That event marks the series’ first event at the Pennsylvania .522-mile track since the late Ted Christopher won there in 2006.
