With the 5th Annual Chilly Willy 150 at Tucson Speedway just over one week away, the anticipation level is growing. For West Coast racing fans, the anticipation grew even more late Tuesday as track officials released the first look at the entry list for the upcoming $10,000-to-win Super Late Model contest.
As expected, many local favorites are expected to show up and defend their home asphalt, with veterans Chuck Wares and John Lashley leading the home guard, while hometown young guns like Sean Bray will look to prove themselves against the experienced roster.
Super Late Model stalwarts from all across the west will also be shooting for the $10,000 prize including 2017 Summer Showdown winner Preston Peltier, Bruce Yackey, Christian McGee, and Ron Eaton. Former race winners Tayler Riddle and Owen Riddle will also be looking to become the first two-time race winners.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will also see stout representation with both Chris Eggleston and Kody Vanderwal throwing their hats into the ring.
Canada’s British Columbia already has a trio of drivers set to make the long journey south in one week’s time with Brandon Carlson, Darrell Midgely, and BC hall-of-famer Tom Berrow entering the fray.
While the initial Super Late Model list stood at 35 cars Tuesday, by late Wednesday night that number had bumped up to 43, with well-known names such as Noah Gragson, Ron Norman, and Matt Levin being among the latest to throw their name in the ring for $10,000.
With so many entries, Tucson Speedway announced that a second $1,200 to win 50-lap exhibition race had been added to the Thursday night lineup, with the Super Late Model field being split accordingly between the two events. While Chilly Willy 150 winner’s share still stands at $10,000, a total purse of around $75,000 is now on tap which will be distributed over the three-night event.
