The Super Late Model season has historically begun at New Smyrna Speedway with the Redeye, starting with the first event back in 1984. The tradition continues this Saturday, January 2at the Florida half-mile with eight divisions, headlined by the David Rogers Super Late Models and Pro Late Models.
For the third-straight year, the Redeye 50-50 will be contested as Twin-50 lap races for Super and Pro Late Models. Brad May (SLM) and Jett Noland (PLM) are the defending winners of the Redeye, while Ryan Moore and Mike Skinner won the first edition of the Redeye 50-50 in 2018.
May and Moore lead the list of entries on the Super Late Model side, along with NASCAR competitors Garrett Smithley and Gus Dean. The SLM list is Florida-heavy, with six total drivers from the Sunshine State entered. They include former track champions Daniel Dye, Anthony Sergi, former Governor’s Cup winner Jeff Scofield, Central Florida standout Jesse Dutilly and George Gorham Jr. Also entered for the SLM portion include Pennsylvania’s Kris Wright and Michigan’s Hayden Sprague.
The Pro Late Model entry list is led by defending PLM World Series of Asphalt champion Jamie Skinner. The PLM list also features a heavy Florida influence, with Joe Hamilton, Colby Clements, Colt Hensley and Tony Newsom. Tovia Grynewicz will make the trip to Texas, while Quebec’s Jean-Phillippe Bergeron will add an international flavor to the event.
Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stocks, E-Mods, Bombers and Ground Pounders will also join the car for Saturday’s Redeye. Modifieds will run 35 laps, Super Stocks and Sportsman will compete for 25 laps, while the E-Mods, Bombers and Ground Pounders will race for 20 laps.
