The 2015 short track racing season has come to an end, and that means it’s time for everyone to turn their attention towards the 2016 racing season. With that in mind, there’s one last thing racers all over the country need to do before the New Year; they need to submit an application for the 2016 Kulwicki Driver Development Program before the December 31 deadline.
“This is a great time during the offseason,” said KDDP Executive Director, Tom Roberts. “There’s family time and not really that much going on. What a perfect time it would be to make it useful by filling in and sending in your applications.”
Seven drivers will be selected to be a part of the second ever KDDP class. Each driver selected will receive $7,777 worth of sponsorship money to help with their racing plans for the 2016 season.
But in addition to the initial $7,777, the champion has a chance to receive more than $50,000 in winnings, just like inaugural Kulwicki Cup champion, Ty Majeski. Unbelievably, that’s more than most series pay out to their champion at the end of the season.
The 2016 Kulwicki Driver Development Program application is available online and by request. Roberts urges all drivers to make sure they get their applications in by the deadline, because they have a chance to join a program that’s already very big, but also still growing.
“2015 was fantastic season,” said Roberts. “We more than exceeded our expectations, and we can only hope to be able to have such a quality group of seven drivers for 2016.”
