A familiar face showed up in victory lane Saturday night at Anderson Speedway in Indiana. Cody Coughlin drove his Toyota Camry to a second straight ARCA/CRA Super Series victory.
“I’ve been wanting to win here for awhile now, well I want to win every where I go, but especially this one, because it has given us fits in the past. It’s just really cool and I am so blessed to be able to win here,” Coughlin told Speed51 powered by JEGS.
The Joe Gibbs Racing Development Driver went toe-to-toe with last year’s JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour champion Dalton Armstrong for the victory. Despite some rubbin’ on the tight quarter-mile oval of Anderson Speedway, Coughlin emerged victorious at the end of 125 laps.
“There was some hard, hard racing out there, but that is the root of the sport. There are some little bumps and bruises on the car, but we got the trophy and we couldn’t be happier,” said Coughlin with a smile. “It is difficult to keep cool out there when they are beating and banging the whole time, but I have great people on my team who give me a great race car.”
Dalton Armstrong won the CRA Super Series opener at the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in April and now has three-straight podium finishes to start the season.
“It was some tough racing out there that’s for sure, but our guys worked really hard to get us to where we are and that’s the part that makes it worse about us finishing second. We just want to win again,” explained Armstrong. “I was just really wanting to win here at Anderson, it’s my home track, but we will get them next time.”
Coughlin extended his series point lead with the triumph, his second in the first three races of the season.
“This is a huge confidence booster for sure,” Coughlin said. “This is going to be a tough championship to win if we decide to run the full season. The top two guys are running really hard.”
And to score a victory on this weekend makes it extra special for the Coughlin family.
“It is awesome to be able to get the win here for my mom for Mother’s Day,” he said. “It was awesome that she was here tonight, she is always my biggest supporter and I thank God for her.”
