The Month of May is here and with it comes the beginning of the regular racing season, with many tracks beginning their weekly championship seasons. There are many touring series across the land that are also entering the heart of their 2016 schedules. Here is a look at 10 noteworthy events all around the country that short track fans would want to check out.

 

  1. Support 50 Legs 150 at Star Speedway (NH): The PASS North Super Late Models continue their busy start to the season with race number-four of 2016 at the quarter-mile Star Speedway in Epping, NH. While close racing is on the order of the night, the event will look to raise money for 50 Legs on Saturday night.

 

  1. CARS Tour at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC): CARS Super Late Models and Late Model Stock Cars will each go for 125 laps on Saturday night for their third event of the season. Both tours have had two different winners in the first two races.

 

  1. ARCA/CRA Super Series at Anderson Speedway (IN): The series is celebrating its 20th season in 2016 and is returning Saturday to where it all started; on the fast quarter-mile of Anderson Speedway outside Indianapolis. Cody Coughlin is looking for his second straight win of the season and will also try to protect his points lead.

 

  1. Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl (VT): After a rain out one week previous, the ACT Late Model Tour will go for take two Sunday afternoon up in Vermont’s Green Mountains. It will be the third event of 2016 for ACT and will open the 2016 season for Thunder Road.

 

  1. Hayes Jewelers 200 at Bowman Gray Stadium (NC): Bowman Gray’s season opener was also spoiled by rain a week ago, but the Modifieds are ready once again to go 160 more laps on Saturday night. Tim Brown was the leader at lap 40 when weather called things off last Saturday night and the 200-lapper will continue from that point.

 

  1. NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at Tucson Speedway (AZ): For the second straight year, the K&N West Series heads deep into the Arizona desert on Saturday, where Todd Gilliland looks for his fourth straight win in the series and to extend his lead in the championship.

 

  1. TUNDRA Super Late Models Opener at Wisconsin Int’l Raceway (WI): The “Frozen Tundra” is set to melt down Saturday night as some of the region’s best Super Late Model drivers will take to the track for the first time with the TUNDRA series in 2016.

 

  1. USAC & World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Eldora Speedway (OH): Dirt Sprint Car fans are set to get their money’s worth with wingless USAC National Sprints and winged World of Outlaws Sprints set to race Friday and Saturday nights at the “Big E.”

 

  1. Pacific Challenge Series at Ukiah Speedway (CA): The Super Late Models in California have also seen their fair share of parity to start 2016 with two winners in the first two races. Both Jeff Bischofberger and Jeremy Doss enter Saturday night’s race locked in battle for the points lead.

 

  1. Denny Nyari Memorial at New Paris Speedway (IN): New Paris is set to open its 2016 season in grand fashion with the Super Late Models going 75 laps for $3,200 as they honor one of their very best.
